Touch Up Small Damage to the Natural Stone

Minor damage to natural stone occasionally occurs, which does not affect the overall stability. The majority of the visual can be repaired well with repair kits and suitable filling compounds. Many methods can also be used without having to dismantle the natural stone.

Common Filling Materials

Even though most natural stones are relatively resistant to damage, breaks, holes or cracks can always occur. In many cases, overall stability is not affected. Four materials are used for adhesive or filling repairs :

  • Hot Wax Crayons
  • Resin
  • Marmorkitt
  • Grouts

The right choice depends not only on the type of damage but also on the type of natural stone. Damaged joints can also be refilled with the repair materials.

Remove Scratches

Scratches and dull spots on natural stone surfaces can often be removed by polishing. For deep scratches in natural stone or “dusty” open spots, hot wax pencils are suitable for touching up. However, the wax application is not suitable for heavily used surfaces such as floor slabs in a hallway.

Acrylic and synthetic resins or special marble cement usually consist of a two-component system that forms a hard and stable connection with the natural stone. After drying out, it is adjusted by polishing and grinding if necessary.

The repair kits are used with application tools that match the damage pattern. Syringes, spoons or fine spatulas simplify the application of fillers and adhesives. Depending on the material, the manufacturers give precise instructions for use, which can also consist of several work steps.
